THE hackney social

Co-Founder & Director

I co-founded The Hackney Social in 2018 — transforming an unused railway arch in Bohemia Place into a live music venue built almost entirely from recycled and reclaimed materials.

We secured Arts Council funding for Keep on Moving at the Hackney Social — 18 events showcasing 32 outstanding emerging artists of Black and Asian heritage performing across recognised Black music genres, drawing audiences from across London to Hackney.

Over six years we built a genuine community hub: 250+ shows, 500+ artists platformed, 100+ markets, 2,000+ local traders supported, and 20+ local organisations based there. People didn't just visit — they called it home.

We closed in July 2024 when our use of the space came to an end.
